About Oregon’s Renegade Rollergirls
The Renegade Rollergirls of Oregon are here...branched off to form a Skater owned and Operated league in June of 2006. With support from the community and interleague teamwork, camaraderie and dedication we wish to join the nationwide grass roots effort to revive the entertaining sport of Roller Derby.
Our Renegade predecessors in Arizona formed their league in the summer of 2004 from a group of the top skaters in Arizona. The league prides itself on high ethical procedures, organizational structure, and all-around skater well being. Along with the Arizona league and a second sister league in San Diego, we wish to pursue the same goals and visions of bringing public interest towards the sport back to life. Anytime, any place, any surface. With the assistance of dedicated coaching and training staff, The Renegade Rollergirls are able to offer all women the opportunity to learn the sport and to skate with us. We encourage interested skaters, fans, and sponsors to check us out.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
The Renegade mission is to provide the women of Bend the opportunity to participate in a team sport that contributes to fitness, making friends and building self confidence. As a nationwide grass roots effort to revive the sport of roller derby, Renegade aims to give back to the community that supports our efforts not only with charitable contributions but with all American no-holds-barred roller derby entertainment.
Q and A...
Do you have what it takes to be a Renegade Rollergirl?
The only requirement for being a Renegade is to be female and 18 years of age or older.
What if I have never roller skated before?
We have skaters with coaching abilities to get you going with the basic fundamentals needed to get you feeling comfortable with roller skating and developing your strength, balance and agility needed to be able to play roller derby.
What if I don’t have roller skates and the equipment necessary to join?
You can come to practice at the Midtown Music Hall(LINK) Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-9, and open skate is available from 9-10. We have loaner gear to get you started.
You can also get a rollergirl discount at Aspect and Pure Skate Shop.
There are websites and sponsors such as www.rdcshop.com
(Bend Ski & Board Sport online) that will hook you up with good deals on pads and helmets.
We also have a loaner program. When current skaters have upgraded their equipment some girls have decided to put their pads in the pot-o-pads for fresh meat (new skater) use until they get their own.
